Having been born on October 12th, one has an awareness of Columbus Day as a holiday, one has possibly a greater sense of inclusion to this holiday and I am not Italian. With any degree of self awareness or cultural awareness, one can know this is a complex rather black holiday for many. I don't pine the loss of the holiday's name, and find the notion of Indigenous day as a title, hardly a remedy to the complexities that October 12th, 1492 is and bore forth. But in many ways, we, and not just on this side of the pond, are all born of that day.
