Near to the Wild Heart , CAFE, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 1990
This installation was conceived as an underground park for the city, and a monument to the New Mexico acequia, one of the state's most remarkable cultural forms, a communal irrigation ditch which travels the course of the Rio Grande. The work was on exhibit for two years and included features such as a 26 foot concrete trough with circulating water system, specialized lighting, garden, ceramic sitting table, resting cot, baptismal, stuccoed interior, and more.
